The purpose of Family Tax Benefit (FTB) reconciliation is to determine eligibility and the amount of FTB that is payable. Following each entitlement year, a family’s Adjusted Taxable Income is reconciled with the amount of FTB paid in instalments throughout the previous year. The reconciliation process also determines if a family is eligible for the end of year FTB supplements. The outcome of the reconciliation process may result in a family receiving a top-up payment, a debt being raised or no change.
Since 2006–07, following the introduction of the end of year supplements, FTB reconciliation data has been included as an appendix to the Department of Social Services’ Annual Report.
To improve accessibility, FTB reconciliation data is now available via the data.gov.au website annually from 2017–18 onward.
