Dataset: CLM Groundwater balance analysis

Description

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

This dataset contains the budget data from the selected 30 groundwater model realisations used for water balance analysis. Realisation index numbers are listed in a text file. Input parameters for every realisation are also provided. Although the raw model outputs are not contained, people can reproduce all the raw outputs using the registered Clarence-Moreton groundwater model together with these input parameters.

Dataset History

The components of the water balance represent a different set of model outputs to the hydrological response variables generated at receptor locations and are therefore not included in the uncertainty analysis reported in companion product 2.6.2 for the Clarence-Moreton bioregion. The water balance analysis was carried out based on 30 model simulations selected from a total of 1847 successful simulations conducted for the sensitivity analysis reported in companion product 2.6.2 for the Clarence-Moreton bioregion. The selection process mainly involves the following steps:

  1. Filter models using the forecast water production. Only models with a water production that is within the range from one-tenth of the forecast volume to ten times the forecast volume were used for further analysis.

  2. Compute and normalise the head objective function using the observed heads described in the companion product 2.6.2 for the Clarence-Moreton bioregion (Cui et al., 2016).

  3. Compute and normalise the baseflow objective function using estimated baseflow at the river stage gauge site near Casino.

  4. Rank the models based on the sum of the two normalised components of the objective function described in step 2 and step 3.

  5. Conduct a statistical summary analysis using the top 30 models derived in step 4.
