The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.
Colinlea_flow_direction: This dataset shows groundwater flow lines in the Colinlea Sandstone aquifer. The flow lines are drawn perpendicular to the corrected potentiometric contours of BC3. The flow direction is from a high to a lower potential.
Cz_flowDirection: This dataset shows groundwater flow lines in the unconsolidated Cenozoic aquifer of the eastern Galilee Basin for the Buchanan, Galilee and Jericho 1:250 000 sheets. The flow lines are drawn perpendicular to the potentiometric contours of the Cenozoic aquifers. The flow direction is from a high to a lower potential. Each groundwater flow line forms a boundary for the 19 flow elements.
Klm_Kw_FlowDirections: This dataset shows groundwater flow lines in the Allaru Mudstone / Wallumbilla Formation (east) and Winton / Mackunda Formations (west). The flow lines are drawn perpendicular to the corrected potentiometric contours of Klu / Kw. The flow direction is from a high to a lower potential.
Re_FlowDirections: This dataset shows groundwater flow lines in the Clematis / Warang Sandstone aquifers. The flow lines are drawn perpendicular to the corrected potentiometric contours of Re/Rlw. The flow direction is from a high to a lower potential.
Flow direction shape files show the direction of water flow within the area of interest.
Colinlea_flow_direction: The BC3 flowlines show groundwater flow is towards the west in the central and western Galilee Basin and towards the east (Belyando River valley) in the eastern Galilee Basin on the Galilee 1:250 000 sheet. A prominent groundwater mound (recharge zone) is evident east of Blackall on the Jericho 1:250 000 sheet.
Cz_flowDirection: The extent of the unconsolidated Cenozoic aquifers of the eastern Galilee Basin was defined by tracing the area of occurrence of Cenozoic units mapped as "Qa", "Qs" and "Cz" on the 1:250 000 sheets. This methodology assumes hydraulic connection exists between all three units. Water levels were extracted from the QDNRM Groundwater database. No density corrections were done due to the shallowness of the bores (< 40 m around tributary streams, < 100 m in the Belyando River valley). Using Darcy's Law across the 19 flow elements in the Cz aquifer gives a total baseflow flux of 7950 ML/year.
Klm_Kw_FlowDirections: The Klu/ Kw flowlines show groundwater flow is towards the west and southwest. Local groundwater mounds occur in the Klu / Kw watertable throughout the Galilee Basin. These are recharge mounds and occur where the saprolite has been eroded, generally on topographic highs.
Re_FlowDirections: The Re/Rlw flowlines show groundwater flow is towards the west and southwest over most of the Galilee Basin. However a groundwater divide exists in the eastern Galilee Basin and flow on the eastern side of the divide is east towards the Belyando River valley.
