The digital Suburb/Locality Boundaries and their legal identifiers have been derived from the cadastre data from each state and territory jurisdiction and are available below.
Suburb/Locality Boundaries are part of Geoscape Administrative Boundaries, which is built and maintained by Geoscape Australia using authoritative government data. Further information about contributors to Administrative Boundaries is available here.
The full Administrative Boundaries dataset comprises seven Geoscape products:
Updated versions of Administrative Boundaries are published on a quarterly basis.
Users have the option to download datasets with feature coordinates referencing either GDA94 or GDA2020 datums.
Notable changes in the August 2023 release
Six new localities,’Corymbia’,’Greenstone’,’K’gari’,’Lilywood’,’Wagtail Grove’, and “Waraba’ have been added to this product.
The locality of Fraser Island (locality_pid = ‘locd33842b82a3b’) has been retired. This locality has been renamed to K’gari.
There have been spatial changes (area) greater than 1000 sqkm to the ’Coralie’, ’Stuart’, ’Claraville’, ’Dingo’, Wamuran’, ’Stewarton’,’Wooroona’,’Cluden’,’ Great Sandy Strait’,’ Blackdown’,’ Upper Caboolture’,’ Blackbull’ and 'Bellmere’ localities.

The Australian Government has negotiated the release of Administrative Boundaries to the whole economy under an open CCBY 4.0 license.
