Dataset: Victorian Aquifer Framework - Extent Polygons

Description

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from the Victorian Aquifer Framework (VAF) dataset (GUID: 67f60c8e-a944-4932-8a48-47dd1d1625b5) provided by the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment. You can find a link to the parent datasets in the Lineage Field in this metadata statement. The History Field in this metadata statement describes how this dataset was derived.

This dataset consists of polygons showing the horizontal extent of the aquifers in the Victorian Aquifer Framework.

Purpose

The VAF extent polygons have been developed for use in the Gippsland Bioregional Assessment 1.1 product aquifer connectivity map.

Dataset History

The Victorian Aquifer Framework (VAF) extent polygons were developed at Geoscience Australia within ESRI ArcMap 10.2 by reclassifying the original VAF grids (GUID: 67f60c8e-a944-4932-8a48-47dd1d1625b5) into integer values (giving all cells a value of 1), then converting the resulting grids to polygons. The polygons have not been simplified. The polygons display the aerial (2D) extent of each VAF layer in a way that is simpler than the original Grids which convey 3 dimensional information about each layer including thickness and extent information.
