Dataset: Remote sensing images - regolith ratios and barest earth

Description

Abstract

The dataset was compiled by the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program from multiple sources referenced within the dataset and/or metadata. The processes undertaken to compile this dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement. This dataset contains raster datasets derived from Geoscience Australia's Barest Earth product. Outputs contained are Gozzard Ratio, Iron/Clay ratio, Sultans Formula and DPCA products. These products provide users with information regarding the makeup of outcropping geology and regolith in the Beetaloo GBA region.

History

Raster analysis was carried out in ESRI's ArcGIS software. Gozzard ratio, developed by Tapley and Gozzard, has been applied to the parent dataset and is used to provide finer subdivision in areas where iron and clay are important components of the regolith. Iron Clay ratio was applied to the parent dataset and is used to differentiate between different types of iron and clay. The Sultan's formula was applied to the parent dataset and is used to highlight ultramafic rocks in arid terrain (Sultan et al., 1987), and is broadly applicable to mapping geological features. DPCA is the Directed Principle Components Analysis has been applied to the parent dataset. The DPCA formula applied was developed by Fraser and Green.
